Itinerary

1. Arrival in Tirana (35 km)

Arrival at the international airport of Tirana “Mother Tereza ”. Transfer to the hotel.

Overnight in Tirana.

2. Tirana – Pogradec – Korça (165km)

Breakfast at the hotel.

Departure to Pogradec, a city on the shores of Lake Ohrid, the deepest lake in the Balkans and one of the oldest lakes on our planet.

Then continue towards Korça, an important cultural center in the southeast of the country surrounded by high mountains. Panoramic tour of the city with its historic center of stately homes from the early 20th century, the Orthodox Cathedral and the old Ottoman bazaar.

3. Korça – Përmet – Gjirokastër (200 km)

Breakfast at the hotel.

After breakfast, we make a stop in Përmet, or as it is otherwise known as the City of Roses because of the beautiful nature that surrounds it.

After a city tour in Permet, we continue through picturesque countryside between the mountains to Gjirokastra , a UNESCO World Heritage Site 'museum city'.

Gjirokastra is an Old Medieval town, which was rebuilt in the Ottoman period with an authentic architecture, which continues to be preserved even today. It is also famous for the castle overlooking the whole town, where the old tower-like houses stand on the hillsides with their beautiful old wooden facades.

4. Gjirokastër – Butrint – Saranda (82 km)

Breakfast at the hotel.

We start our day with a tour of the city of stones, Gjirokaster with the castle and its characteristic Skenduli house, built in 1700, in the Ottoman period and considered one of the most beautiful houses in the Balkans. There we can find the owner and he will tell us about the history of the house and the difficulties during the time of communism. You have to walk around half an hour because all the paths are made of stone. There is no chance of the minivan going there.

Gjirokaster, apart from the extraordinary historical and cultural values, is inextricably linked to the literary genius, Ismail KADARE, which has made Albanian literature speak in 45 world languages, introducing Albania to its centuries-old history and culture.

Then we leave for Saranda .

On the way to Saranda, we make a stop in Butrint and visit the ancient Greco-Roman city, which was inhabited until the end of the Middle Ages, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The ancient city of Butrint (also known as Buthrotum in ancient times), was once one of the finest and most beautiful cities in the entire Roman Empire. 2,400 years later, it is a place that still captivates people today.

Butrint was supposed to become a hospice for veterans of Roman wars, but in the 3rd century AD an earthquake destroyed most of the city. Many of the ruins you see today are from the same earthquake, and the city disappeared from the map after that.

5. Saranda – Porto Palermo – Ardenitsa Monastery – Berat (237 km)

Breakfast at the hotel.

During our way to Berati, we travel to the southern part of Albania on the Albanian Riviera, which offers incredible views of the Ionian coast.

We will make a short stop in Porto Palermo , where we will visit an Ottoman fortress built by the famous tyrant Ali Pasha , who ruled these lands in the 19th century.

We continue our way to the Ardenitsa Monastery built in the 13th century.In the place where the Monastery now stands, there used to be a pagan temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis, which explains the origin of the name Ardenica .

Arrival in Berat, known as the "City of a Thousand Windows" and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Overnight in Berat.

• Visit of the Ottoman fortress built by Ali Pasha in Porto Palermo.

• Visit to the Ardenitsa monastery .

6. Berat – Durrës – Tirana (130km)

Breakfast at the hotel. The morning begins with a visit to the city of Berat. Visit of the huge citadel of Berat, which is still inhabited today and contains many Orthodox Christian churches and the Onufri Museum with its 16th century icons. We will visit the lower part of the city with its old neighborhoods Mangalemi and Gorica on the banks of the Osum River .

Departure for Durrës, a port city on the Adriatic. Our visit here includes the old medieval walls and the Roman amphitheater and the archaeological museum.

After the visit we continue to Tirana. Guided tour of the city with its Skanderbeg square , the center of the Albanian capital, where the Et'hemBeu Mosque , the Opera, and the National Museum of History and other ministries of Italian influence are of interest.

7. Tirana – Kruja – Shkodër – Tirana (225 km)

Departure for Kruja , a medieval village at the foot of the mountain, which in the late Middle Ages was the center of anti-Ottoman resistance. Visit of the old castle bazaar and the Scanderbeg Museum , 15th century Albanian national hero.

Continue to Shkodër, the largest Catholic center in Albania and one of the most important cities in the country. We will visit the fortress of Rozafa where, according to a legend, a young patrician had to be sacrificed to complete the fortress.

In the afternoon we return to Tirana for accommodation.
